The accessibility of these tools has triggered an explosion in criminal adoption. Group-IB's monitoring of underground forums reveals a staggering increase in discussions about AI-powered attack methods. While such conversations averaged fewer than 50,000 messages annually between 2020 and 2022, they surged to approximately 300,000 messages per year starting in 2023. This sixfold increase demonstrates how rapidly the criminal underground has embraced these new capabilities.

During the report's launch event in London, Anton Ushakov, who leads Group-IB's cybercrime investigation unit, explained that these ready-made kits have evolved from specialized tools into commodity products. Ushakov's team discovered that artificial intelligence now orchestrates the entire phishing lifecycle—from infrastructure setup and victim targeting to campaign execution and management. Previously, criminals utilizing phishing-as-a-service (PhaaS) platforms had to manually configure SMTP servers, curate victim lists, and manage campaign logistics. Today, AI systems automate these processes, allowing attackers to launch sophisticated campaigns with minimal technical knowledge.
